The Perfect Holiday Hideout
If somewehere in the future I look through a window of my home and I see something like this, I wouldn’t mind…not at all. The family holiday lounge, located somewhere in Mexico and more importantly in the middle of the nature. Literally is surrounded with greenery and the best of all is that it is so carefully positioned in the space, that it doesn’t cause disturbance or destruction. This was achieved by letting the trees intact and let them grow where they are and use them to design a building around them- some kind of negotiation between interior space and exterior.
The shape of the building as a letter Y indicates there are three different wings with different purpose. The three of them meet in the center in the biggest lounge area, which I see as some kind of square, where different people with different hobbies and interestings meet and interact. In this part there are visible the trees, that were left intact and among them there are hammocks hanging. If we construct a building around trees, why shouldn’t we use them for something applicable, yet harmless- like hanging hammocks onto them? Maybe next time. Hammocks are there instead of sofas, except they are less glamourous and as much useful for reading books or take a nap.
Three areas on tips of letter Y indicate three activities, going on there. At first we have area with small kitchen and a bar, which provide for our daily needs and beside it there is also a bit hidden restroom and dressroom- so this is a space of great neccessity. Second wing there is a play area for children, which can be transformed into reading or relaxing space. And the last there is a living area, where the social activities take place- no hammocks, here are the real sofas. All of this three areas can be closed in case the cold weather storms in.
Construction of the building is made by raw concrete, which is very common in countries of South America, but it also very cheap, easy to maintain and in tune with the nature, because it doesn’t stand out. Also it is very easily to shape a building with curves in concrete material.
I think the architects (Cadaval & Sola-Morales) of this lounge deserve an applause for creating a very useful, highly thought and yet gorgeous covered terrace next to the pool. It is a perfect holiday relaxation- who says we have to travel across the world and check into 5-star hotel to make our holiday pleasant? We can have it right at home.
